Skills for Life

In the UK today, one in six adults have a skills gap in literacy or numeracy. To be effective in the workplace it is essential that an employee has a good understanding of basic English and Maths. Companies lose thousands of pounds and many of hours of productivity through poor levels of basic skills.

The benefits to business of having a skilled workforce are proven: flexibility, adaptability, higher productivity and greater profitability. There is a need for more employers to recognise and invest in a literate and numerate workforce as a means of surviving and thriving in an increasingly competitive global economy.

Skills for Life qualifications are designed to help employees develop the skills needed in the workplace such as reading, writing and maths. Support for these qualifications is central to achieving the Leitch Review target of 95% of the population being functionally literate and numerate by 2020.

Training providers will come to visit your business to perform an initial assessment to identify any basic skills training needs for your employees!

“40% of Confederation of British Industry (CBI) member employers report that their employees’ poor literacy, language and numeracy skills have a negative impact on customer service, and 34 per cent report a negative impact on productivity. Of the one million care workers in England, it is estimated that 20% have literacy and numeracy skills below level 2, and at least 20 per cent have language needs”
